This layout is set on a cross-country route somewhere in the North Midlands in the 1960s. Main line trains include a variety of cross- country and local passenger services together with a mixture of freight traffic passing through.

Built by the Midland Railway at the end of the 19th century, some of the original character remains in the form of the station buildings, fittings, some lineside notices and other relics.

The Junction provides a branch line with local passenger services to the adjoining towns and villages. The branch line provides access to the loco shed, a small goods yard and the world famous Wingfield Brewery. Further up the line there is the base of a local preservation society which is becoming increasingly popular with excursion trains from all over the country. The branch also serves a small steelworks with coal and iron ore trains going in and steel ingot trains departing for processing in other areas.

Operation of the layout can be set either in the early 1960s operating steam locos and green diesels or in the late 1960s/early 1970s operating green and blue diesel locomotives

Locos and rolling stock are mainly proprietary ready to run items augmented by some kit built items. Of particular interest is the unique 'Fell' locomotive seen above.

Since first appearing at the Bakewell exhibition in June 2005 the layout has continued to be developed with lighting and working signal being the latest additions.

As well as the railway items many road vehicles are exhibited on the layout (the buses are in the livery of the 'North Western Road Car ' company which was based in Stockport and provided services in the Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Derbyshire areas).
